6:00 PM – More Than Feathers: The Hidden Value of Birds
Presented by Jamey Emmert, Avian Education Coordinator for the Ohio Division of Wildlife
Birds do far more than brighten our mornings with song or add color to our backyards. They quietly shape the world we live in every single day.
Join Avian Education Coordinator Jamey Emmert for an engaging and eye-opening look at the many ways birds benefit people and the planet. From boosting our mental well-being and inspiring art and innovation, to pollinating plants, dispersing seeds, and even influencing modern technology through biomimicry, birds play a vital role in our daily lives, often without us even realizing it.
Whether you’re a seasoned birder or simply someone who enjoys the outdoors, this program will leave you with a deeper appreciation for our feathered neighbors and a fresh perspective on just how connected we are to them.
You may never look at a bird the same way again.
Bio
Jamey Emmert is an Avian Education Coordinator for the Ohio Division of Wildlife. A 2003 graduate of Hocking College with an Associate Degree in Wildlife Management, Jamey has been with the Division since that same year. Her role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including managing the Lake Erie and Ohio River Birding Trail programs, conducting educational workshops, and collaborating with other educators on conservation initiatives. Outside of work, Jamey enjoys playing outside with her husband Greg and their very adventurous chihuahua.
7:00 PM – Special Screening of A Bird in the Hand
Join us for a special screening of A Bird in the Hand, an inspiring documentary that follows Tom and Paula Bartlett in northwest Ohio as they pursue their goal of banding 100,000 birds. Along the way, the film captures their impact on bird research, conservation, and the many people they meet through their work. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with directors Christy Frank and Alex Goetz, along with Tom and Paula Bartlett.
8:00 PM – Eyes of the Hunter: Meet a Red-Tailed Hawk
Meet one of Ohio’s most powerful and recognizable birds of prey during this live Red-tailed Hawk program. Get an up-close look at this incredible raptor while learning about its unique adaptations, hunting skills, habitat, and important role in the ecosystem.
