The weather outside may be getting frightful – but the seasonal drinks and holiday desserts are (you guessed it) delightful.
As we plow into the holiday season, you’re going to need some fresh flavors to get you in the spirit. Never fear, Trumbull County’s coffee shops, bakeries, and chocolatiers have you covered. So, grab a drink for yourself and a gift for someone else when you try these delicious holiday treats:
Seasonal Drinks and Donuts
Seasonal flights have always been the name of the game at the Howland Bean and you can bet this winter will be no different. If you’re a coffee lover, this is the place to sample the most creative holiday concoctions. Think pecan praline, toasted butter pecan, snicker-doodle, peppermint mocha, and more! You’ll also find plenty of festive desserts in the case, and a bit of gelato, too, if you need some holiday chill.
Feeling like a salty snowman? Or maybe you’re a sweetheart? Cortland Main Street Coffee brings the flavor with a full menu of specialty holiday drinks each year. From white chocolate and raspberry to toasted marshmallow with caramel or chocolate with cranberry, these cleverly-named coffee drinks are festive and too sweet to pass up!
If you just can’t get enough of those seasonal drinks, make sure to check out Trumbull County’s other coffee shops, including Market House Caffe in Howland, Twisted Peacock Coffee Shop in Vienna, The Daily Grind in Girard, Cadence Coffee House in Niles, Mudslingers of Niles, and Broken Leaf Café in Newton Falls.
Alright, let’s talk donuts. Sure, Nova Coffee Co. in Warren will have you covered with the seasonal coffee and tea drinks like Trumbull County’s other coffee shops, but they also bring some festive fun to their popular donuts. You can’t go wrong with the glazed Nova Special, which is always available, but during the holidays you’re also sure to find flavors like peppermint or toasted marshmallow.
Need more donuts? Of course, you do. Look no further than Maggie’s Doughnuts in Kinsman or Newton Falls. Maggie’s is a great place to grab an apple fritter, glazed croissant, or maple cinnamon roll – and you can bet this winter every dessert will be decked out in its holiday best. Plus, here’s a not-so-secret secret: Maggie’s doesn’t just do donuts, they have a whole breakfast menu and lots of sandwiches! Come for the sweets and stay for the loaded bacon, sausage, and cheese biscuit or some pulled pork sliders.
Cakes and Confectionaries
Blueberry pie cinnamon rolls. Sweet n’ salty pretzel bark. Adorably decorated sugar cookies. What do all these things have in common? You can find them on the holiday selection at The Cake Boutique in Warren. If you want to bring the flavors of the season home, check The Cake Boutique for do-it-yourself sugar cookie decorating kits, jumbo cinnamon rolls, and, of course, ready-to-bake cookies for Santa in a variety of flavors like peppermint chocolate chip, peanut butter chip and hot chocolate brownie. And, as the name suggests, The Cake Boutique is also the place to order specialty holiday cakes and cupcakes.
There’s no place like home for the holidays, and for plenty of Trumbull County folks, nowhere says home like the Mocha House in Warren. During the season at the Mocha House, you’ll find plenty of holiday-themed coffee and drink specials and some hearty winter food cycling its way onto the menu. But you’re here for the sweets, right? Well, Mocha House has that more than covered. This Warren favorite is a great spot to grab a holiday pie, seasonally decorated sugar-cookies, or your favorite Greek or Italian desserts, like lady fingers, cannoli’s, and baklava! So, snuggle up with a hot chocolate and a piece of pie and enjoy this hometown spot.
Still haven’t gotten your holiday cookie fix? Or how about some fresh-baked bread? Little Charlie’s Bake Shop in Cortland is one of the county’s newer bakeries with a physical location, but it’s already risen to the top as a local favorite. You won’t want to miss the macaroons, cake pops, cookie sandwiches, and tarts – all of which you can expect to have a festive twist this winter!
Holiday Ice
It may be getting colder outside, but in my humble opinion, it’s never too cold for ice cream. Now, just about anywhere you can probably find ONE holiday ice cream. But how about 24 holiday flavors? Cockeye Creamery in Warren keeps the holiday season delicious with an ice cream advent calendar. This year you can look for flavors like candy cane swirls, the brand-new gingerbread ice cream, and some surprises. If you miss the advent calendar – orders need to be placed by Nov. 28 – you can still grab scoops of plenty of these seasonal flavors as we head into the holidays. Cockeye’s ice creams are fresh-made daily and are constantly changing, so check back regularly to see what new delights await!
I know I can never get enough ice cream. If you feel the same, you can also find all the flavors of the season at Webb’s Ice Cream in Hubbard. Webb’s features a different special flavor every month and also offers limited edition special flavors, like frozen hot chocolate. Also, keep an eye out for their holiday ice cream pies in Webb’s famous chocolate peppermint or original peppermint!
Sweet Gifts
Now, the holidays aren’t just about eating – though let’s be honest, that’s a pretty big part of it. Still, you’ll also want to start thinking about gifts. And what makes a better gift than something sweet? You could, for example, give the gift of locally-made maple syrup or maple candies from Sutton’s Maple Syrup in Kinsman, or a box of assorted chocolates from Daffin’s Candies in Niles or Gorant Candies in Howland. You could get nostalgic with the gift of novelty candy from Sweet Memories Vintage Tees & Candy. Stop by Clarksville Sweets for a bag of gourmet popcorn with flavors ranging from red hot cinnamon to blue raspberry, or check out the Fowler General Store and Bakery for fresh-baked bread and pies, classic candies, and more!
Hopefully these delicious seasonal flavors will satisfy your sweet tooth this holiday season and will keep you warm all through the winter!
