Solo Camping at Mosquito Lake (with a dog in tow)
Sometimes you just need a few nights under the stars to reset, and that’s exactly what I found at Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. It was just me, my dog, and the peaceful quiet of one of Ohio’s most beautiful lakeside spots.

The campground itself was spotless and felt safe at every turn. Friendly campers waved as they passed by on their bikes or while walking, the trails were shaded and full of cool mushrooms, and I couldn’t get enough of the lake views (neither could the dog). We hit the trails in the morning and capped off our hike with a splash in the lake at Cooperation Station Dog Park, a brilliant feature where dogs can roam leash-free and take a dip in the water. It’s definitely the best dog park in the county!

The campground store saved me more than once with late-night snacks and extra supplies. I even considered renting a kayak at the Mosquito Lake Marina, but my pup wasn’t quite ready for open water…next time!
We wrapped up the trip with a sweet treat from Irene’s Dairy Treats just minutes away in Cortland. Nothing says “mini-vacation complete” like a twist cone on a summer evening.
