Girard-Liberty Union Cemetery (est. 1813) holds Trumbull County pioneers, war veterans & a 1912 Greek Revival mausoleum.

Girard-Liberty Union Cemetery stands as a significant historical site in Trumbull County, Ohio, where the region’s early settlers, war veterans, and influential figures rest. Established in 1813 by Henry Barnhisel, who donated land from his Liberty Township holdings, the cemetery has expanded over centuries into the peaceful, park-like setting seen today.

At the heart of the cemetery is the 1912 Greek Revival-style mausoleum, a stunning testament to early 20th-century craftsmanship. Among the notable burials are Camden Cleaveland, brother of the city of Cleveland’s namesake, Revolutionary War veteran Asahel Adams, and Henry Barnhisel Sr., the land’s original donor. Many gravestones date back to the early 1800s, offering a glimpse into Trumbull County’s pioneer history.
